Basepaws marks Feline Kidney Disease Awareness Month

The digital pet health company announced that it has dedicated October to raising awareness about feline chronic kidney disease.

To help raise awareness of feline chronic kidney disease (CKD), Basepaw has declared October Feline Kidney Disease Awareness Month. Throughout the month, Basepaw will support cat parents with tools and resources designed to help manage CKD while raising awareness. By dedicating this month to IRC, Basepaw hopes to help diagnose cats earlier.

“Our company’s mission is to give pet parents and veterinarians a proactive approach to healthcare decisions through education and predictive home screening tests,” said Kristin Wuhrman , Executive Vice President, Business Development at Basepaws, in an organizational press release.

“Our goal during the month of October is to raise awareness and educate cat sitters on the importance of detecting early signs and taking advantage of this with routine checkups as the key to disease prevention. Progressive chronic renal disease Early detection is essential, ”she continued.

Basepaw also offers a wide range of initiatives throughout the month to help amplify IRC awareness, including a free webinar for cat parents on October 26, 2021 at 6 p.m. EDT. In addition, free Basepaws DNA and dental health kits will be offered to owners of cats who have previously been diagnosed with CKD.

“Care for cats with CRF goes beyond the kidneys and beyond the veterinary clinic. The care given to the cat by the people who know and love it best includes medical care, but must also take into account the mental and emotional aspects of health, ”said Margie Scherk, DVM, DABVP (Feline Practice), in the Liberation.

“Teaching cat parents directly complements the advice and education that I am honored to provide to veterinary teams,” she continued.

In addition to the free kits and the webinar, Basepaws has compiled a checklist that veterinary professionals can provide to their clients, which includes the hallmarks of CRF and potential next steps to take if diagnosed. Homeowners will also be able to participate in its CKD citizen science program.
