Christian Brothers Academy appoints Jason Ulrich as new volleyball head coach

LINCROFT, NJ – February 7, 2022 – The Christian Brothers Academy is pleased to announce the selection of Jason Ulrich as the new head coach of the varsity volleyball program.

Ulrich succeeds program founder and sole head coach Monica Slattery, who is stepping down after 20 years. He is now responsible for leading the CBA’s three levels of volleyball, which include junior and freshman varsity teams.

“On behalf of the entire CBA community, I’m thrilled to welcome our new head coach Jason Ulrich, who comes to the CBA with a wealth of high school and college experience,” said athletic director Michael Mazzaccaro ’11. “Coach Slattery has made CBA volleyball a grounded conference and a powerhouse of the state. I have the utmost confidence that Jason will uphold the CBA’s tradition of excellence while educating our athletes to be better people and better players.

Ulrich most recently served as the head coach of the boys program at Jackson Memorial High School, where he was named Shore Conference Coach of the Year by in 2019. His Jaguar teams qualified for all four conference finals three times during his six years as head coach. In 2021, Jackson Memorial qualified for the State Tournament State Division Finals.

“CBA is such an intriguing school and athletic program because both are the best of the best,” Ulrich said. “I always seek to challenge myself at the highest level possible, and CBA is already there. I will work as hard as I can to improve myself, this school and the students of the Academy.

Ulrich was also the head coach of Jackson Memorial Women’s Volleyball from 2006 to 2012.

In addition to coaching at Jackson Memorial, Ulrich is currently an assistant coach for Georgian Court University’s women’s volleyball program, which qualified for two NCAA Division II tournaments during her time there. . He is also the head coach and assistant director of the Shore Volleyball Academy.

“My primary goals for the Colts are to get my coaching philosophy and training program into the system,” he said. “I want our freshman, JV, and varsity teams to eventually form a team with one goal.”

Ulrich takes the reins from Coach Slattery, who started the program in 2002. She has built CBA into one of the top men’s teams in the state, steadily advancing in state and conference tournaments. Christian Brothers won the Shore Conference Tournament in 2015 and was a state runner-up in 2021.

The Colts will return to the field in March before the season opener in early April.
