Could Spot see 30? New book explores the life and longevity of dogs

We all want our dogs to live long, happy and healthy lives, but that’s easier said than done. To the right?

New book ‘The Forever Dog’, written by Rodney Habib and Dr. Karen Becker, two of the world’s most popular and trusted advocates for pet care, reveals how we can dramatically improve physical and mental health of our dogs. It features interviews and advice from top geneticists, microbiologists, longevity researchers and dog owners who have lived into their 20s and 30s.

Much of the book focuses on nutrition, but Becker says it’s important that we also take into account and deal with the stress our dogs face every day.

She suggests taking them outside to play every day and releasing the stress from our own lives. This is because scientists say that pets synchronize with their humans’ levels of cortisol, which is our body’s main stress hormone.

And Habib says the more we do for our dogs now, the less we’ll have to worry about in the future.
