Drunk NJ cop fled accident and left injured woman in car

CLIFTON — An off-duty police officer is charged with fleeing the scene of an accident after drinking and driving, leaving an injured woman in his wrecked vehicle.

Edgar Delgado, 31, of Passaic was arrested on Friday for the Clifton accident which prosecutors say happened earlier in the day. The Passaic cop faces multiple charges, including assault by automobile causing grievous bodily harm.

Passaic County District Attorney Camelia Valdes said Delgado was driving near the intersection of Central and Yereance Avenues early Friday morning. Shortly before 4:30 a.m., he crashed into a parked car, according to Valdes.

Valdes said when Clifton police arrived on the scene, they found Delgado’s car but not him.

Instead, cops found a 28-year-old woman from Clifton in the passenger seat. She was taken to Saint Joseph University Medical Center.

“The investigation revealed that Mr. Delgado was driving his vehicle recklessly, under the influence of alcohol, and left the scene after the accident,” Valdes said.

In addition to the second-degree assault by automobile charge, Delgado faces three third-degree charges, including leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in grievous bodily harm, endangering an injured victim, and obstructing the apprehension. He is also charged with drunk driving.

What would happen to NJ if we were attacked by nuclear weapons?

We used NUKEMAP by Alex Wellerstein to see what would happen if a nuclear warhead hit New York, Philadelphia, Washington or New Jersey.

Models show what would happen during an air detonation, meaning the bomb would be detonated into the sky, causing extensive damage to structures and people below; or what would happen in a detonation on the ground, which would have the alarming result of nuclear fallout. The models do not take into account the number of casualties that would result from the fallout.
