Customer Nicole Jimenez, from Harlem, walked a toy aisle, seeing empty shelves that could be the result of COVID-related issues with the supply chain.
With the holidays approaching, she wants to be safe, not sorry.
“If there are a lot of people who are going to be ordering maybe the same things at the same time, it may not have happened in time. You might not have a present for this person, ”she said.
“So what are you going to do?” asked CBS2’s Dave Carlin.
“I’ll probably start shopping early,” Jimenez said.
John Soroka, owner of the Delphinium Home gift shop in Hell’s Kitchen, says the shortages are real and he’s being proactive.
“We are trying to get around this. I am trying to order earlier. I try to order the things I like to have in my store, but I can’t get everything, ”Soroka said.

The pandemic continues to disrupt the flow of work from factories to stores, and transportation remains a big persistent problem.
A record increase in cargoes driving up shipping prices is one of them, along with some difficulties in hiring truck drivers.
This has an impact on a wide range of industries: from automobiles to computers to groceries.
John Catsimatidis owns the Gristedes and D’Agostino supermarket chains and the Red Apple group.
“We are short products. We are running out of Coca-Cola products… Coca-Cola is running out of truckers, ”he said. “They will receive a delivery, but it is not consistent and we are constantly out of stock. “
Don’t be fooled by end-of-season sales and discounts, says Brunswick Group supply chain expert Siobhan Gorman.
“I’m not sure I would rely on sales to be the ticket,” she said. “If you’re looking for something specific, I’ll bite ahead because you never know if the price will actually go up.”
