I’m a veterinarian…my six tips will make a visit to the clinic a breeze and why you MUST let them sniffle
PROFESSIONAL vets have shared their top tips for making a visit to the clinic easier.
Just as humans dread going to the dentist or the doctor, our furry four-legged friends aren’t too fond of seeing the vet – they bark, run and maybe even bite, trying to let you know he’s it’s time to go home.
No one knows that better than the vets at PetLab Co (@petlabco).
Now, offering a helping hand for those whose dogs are struggling to get to the clinic, the experts have shared their top six tips that will make your pet’s and you’s day easier.
Bringing it to TikTok, the gurus said dogs would typically take on their emotional hues from their owners.
For this reason, they explained in a video, it’s crucial that you don’t get nervous or stressed out during the date.
“Use positive reinforcement throughout and providing extra hugs can help create positive associations with the vet. ”
Revealing their secrets, the vets added: “Even innocuous equipment can scare the most confident dog, so let them investigate and sniff.”
However, while these tips can make the visit more relaxing, there may be times when your beloved dog starts to feel a little anxious.
In this scenario, they advised speaking softly to your pet or using distraction techniques to distract their attention from the vet or equipment.
These include their favorite treats and toys – so get ready.
Finally, animal pros have also recommended not leaving your pets alone — they’ll need emotional support more than ever.
