Projects going forward for a new tractor supply store in Cumberland County

Plans are progressing for the new Tractor Supply store on the West Rim.

A company spokesperson has confirmed that the Summerdale Plaza Mall store in East Pennsboro Township is scheduled to open later this fall (fall began September 22 and ends December 21).

The store is built on the site of the old Kmart store which closed in 2018. An AutoZone store has already opened on the old Kmart site next to the future Tractor Supply store.

Tractor Supply offers a wide range of products, including work clothes and boots, horse and pet supplies, riding mowers, pet food, lawn and garden supplies, power tools, fences, etc.

The store will employ around 15 people, full time and part time. Potential candidates can apply to www.TractorSupply.com/careers.

Tractor Supply has more than 1,900 stores in 49 states, including stores in the Harrisburg, Carlisle, Newport, Dillsburg and Elizabethville areas. The Tractor Supply store in Howe Township, Perry County, near Newport, opened in 2015. The first Tractor Supply store opened in 1938 in Minot, North Dakota.

The Summerdale Plaza Shopping Center is anchored by a PennDOT Driver’s License Center and also includes Rite Aid, Dollar Tree, Al’s Pizza and Pub and among a number of other tenants. A Family Dollar store opened in the center in January. Willner Realty & Development Co. owns the mall.

A number of older Kmart stores have been redeveloped in the middle in recent years. Of the five former Kmart stores in the Harrisburg, Hershey, Carlisle, Enola and Mechanicsburg areas, this is the last to be redeveloped. There are no more Kmart stores in the state after the closure of two Kmart stores in Lancaster and Lucerne County earlier this year.
